It was 30 years ago that we, as a society, first began our quest to stop Carmen Sandiego, the world’s foremost red-jacket-and-big-hat-wearing crook, from stealing stuff like the Eiffel Tower. Yes, in 1985, the computer game that taught us stuff about geography and what color flags are, Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego? first debuted. Then, in 1991, it was turned into a game show for kids on PBS. If you watched the show, you may remember, say, some poor kids getting stuck with a stumper of a map in the bonus round, but what you probably remember is Rockapella.
Rockapella was, of course, the in-house a cappella band for the show, and also the performers of Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego?’s theme song. In honor of the 30th anniversary of the computer game, the folks over at Mashable invited Rockapella into their studio for a little chat, and, of course, for a performance of the iconic theme song.
Now, you may be wondering why Rockapella was invited to celebrate the anniversary of the computer game, which, you know, they had nothing to do with. Our answer is, if you had any excuse to have Rockapella sing the Carmen theme song, why would you pass it up?
