Following the end of Super Bowl 50 last night, you’d have thought Cam Newton slapped a baby draped in the American flag during his press conference. People were not happy. Not that they were happy to begin with, but they got more fuel for their hate thanks to Newton’s antics.
There have been many thoughts shared on the quiet walk-out by Newton, but it would seem that Conan decided it was time to make fun of it a bit by giving his own press conference. Like Newton, Conan falls short with one of his jokes. The press obviously wants to know why, especially since they have a job to do, but Conan is having none of it. He takes a few questions about his terrible joke, but then walks out like Newton — who still did it better.
The real winner, as always, is Andy Richter. He goes ahead and flat-out tells Conan that his joke is terrible and then he brightens the spirits at the press conference with his own joke. Richter is a treasure and he will hopefully always have a job in entertainment. Or at least have a locked-in show on a cruise line that you can enjoy when you’re not being battered by a hurricane.
