HBO Is Holding Its Own Vastly Superior Election With ‘Game Of Thrones’ Characters

Episodes of Game of Thrones season six have just been released for purchase on digital platforms like Apple and Amazon, and to promote their arrival HBO has put together their own 2016 election with a couple more interesting choices than America has. The nominees for the “GoT Party” are Jon Snow and Lyanna Mormont, Daenerys Targaryen and Tyrion Lannister, Cersei Lannister and Qyburn, and Petyr Baelish and Sansa Stark — wait … is Sansa aware of this?

HBO cheekily plays into US election dissatisfaction with their slogans for the campaign: “For those who feel left out. For those who don’t see the right banner on the ballot. For those who don’t like how the game is played.” At the time I’m writing this, there have been over a million votes cast and somehow Littlefinger is in the lead with 34%. Cersei, who finished season six as the actual ruler of Westeros, isn’t getting much love: she holds a whopping 1% of the vote. No love for incumbents this cycle, huh?

Jon Snow is doing well despite the bad optics of being brought back from the dead, and Daenerys continues to perform strongly amongst Dothraki and Meereenese on account of her multi-lingual campaign. The only reasoning we can come up with for Petyr Baelish being in first place? Some people just want to watch the kingdom burn.

Then Cersei, who needs the help:
