Noah Hawley Is Officially Bringing The ‘X-Men’ Adaptation ‘Legion’ To FX

Last year, FX ordered a pilot from Fargo creator Noah Hawley called Legion, which follows the “son of Professor X as he tries to keep his multiple personalities in check, all of which have their own powers.” Professor X? Does that mean Patrick Stewart and/or James McAvoy will drop by at some point? Unfortunately, no — FX president John Landgraf said Legion is “not in the continuity of those films in the sense the current X-Men films take place in a universe in which everybody on planet Earth is aware of the existence of mutants.” Fortunately, it will star Dan Stevens, Aubrey Plaza (meaning both she and her Parks and Recreation husband, Chris Pratt, are in the Marvel universe), Jean Smart, Rachel Keller, and Katie Aselton, among others.

More good news: FX ordered Legion to series today.

“We’ve come to expect excellence from Noah Hawley and with Legion he has delivered another major creative achievement,” said [co-president of original programming Eric] Grad. “Just as he did in reimagining Fargo, he is bringing an entirely new aesthetic and sensibility to the enormously popular and richly represented X-Men world. The pilot episode is stunning, driven by incredible performances from Dan Stevens, Aubrey Plaza, Jean Smart, Rachel Keller, and the rest of the cast. We join our producing partners at Marvel in congratulating the creative team for what they’ve accomplished and are as excited as the fans for the premiere of Legion’s first season.”

The eight-episode first season will debut sometime in 2017. Maybe Noah Hawley can have his Fargo aliens crossover with the Legion mutants?
