The ‘Absolutely Disgusting’ ‘Walking Dead’ Premiere Inspired Some Amazing FCC Complaints

Over the first five seasons of The Walking Dead, there were 1,216 on-screen deaths, or 512 more than on the equally brutal Game of Thrones during the same time period. That’s a lot of casual violence, but it’s not as if The Walking Dead was ever family-friendly — the pilot kicks off with our protagonist Rick shooting a child. You’d think most people would know this by now, but nope.

The Daily Dot discovered that “more than a dozen people sent official complaints to the [Federal Communications Commission] about the show in the days following the premiere.” It’s worth noting that the FCC has no control over cable. That’s why The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story and Breaking Bad can get away with saying certain words you rarely, if ever, hear on broadcast shows. But don’t let common sense get in the way of outrage. (All typos and grammatical errors are original to the complaints.)

The scenes that depicted the death of two cast members was over the top in graphic content. It appall’s me that they depicted this type of violence on a public television broadcast that many ofyoung kids have access to. We wonder why our nations youth is so screwed up anymore…

While a fan of the show, I think this episode went too far in gore and graphical nature for Television. This would have been rated R or NC-17 in the theater. You don’t show ISIS beheading people on TV, nor should you allow someone to be beaten with a barbed-wire baseball bat.

The season opener of The Walking Dead on AMC was beyond brutal, beyond sick and beyond evil. I know there is a warning posted before airing, but kids can still see this. Watching a favourite character’s (human) head being repeatedly pulverized into the ground by another human until there is nothing left is beyond comprehension. I find it hard to believe that this is allowed to be aired, yet 2 people having sex and showing even part of a genital is not. Absolutely disgusting

The AMC show The Walking Dead has transformed from people killing soulless animated corpsesinto a sadistic, emotional torture by showing people killing other people in the most brutal and sadisticways. The last episode of season 6 and the latest episode of season 7 made me very anxious andsick to my stomach. Watching ISIS behead someone isn’t as horrible as watching this tv show

I wish to file a complaint against AMC and the Walking Dead for Episode 701. In this episode we seeNegan bashing two men’s heads in and then showing the one body twitching. It was over the topgratuitous violence that has no place on television. Sometimes children watch this show. Also, thereis a chance that someone could decide to copy the character of Negan’s actions. I think this episodeshould be banned in its current form or banned altogether. We do not need violence porn in analready overly violent society

The Walking Dead season 7 premiere has left my daughter and I psychologically traumatized! We arenot the overly protective parents although we do monitor what our 12 year old watches, as should allparents. This show she watches only with us because it contains gore. But last night’s premiere wentfar beyond what I ever thought was legal to show on tv. I did have our 12 year old turn away after afavorite character’s head was bashed in and his eye protruding from his skull was shown, but it wastoo late and she was hysterically crying. As much as I tried to be strong, I myself couldn’t stop crying.

AMC”s Walking Dead Season 7 episode 1 has gone way too far in what they believe is ok to
broadcast on TV with a TV-14 rating. So far that me my wife and our daughter were not prepared forwhat we witnessed, and had we known would not have watched as the intense gory and graphicnature of its latest episode was just too much.

The Walking Dead uses violence as an upsetting crutch, but there’s a difference between not wanting to see Glenn’s head get pulverized because it’s bad storytelling, versus won’t somebody please think of the children? The FCC complainers fall into the latter category, which borders on censorship. Then again, some of them, like this Tennessee resident, made good points.

Carl dies in the walking dead. Bring him back to life. Carl is my fav. I will be mad you if Carl is notback alive.

To be fair, she could only see half the screen, the side Carl wasn’t on.
