What’s On Tonight: ‘Black Lightning’ Finally Arrives

Black Lightning (CW, 9:00 p.m.) – The series premiere of this new superhero drama from the CW follows Jefferson Pierce, a 40 something father of two who decided to hang up his vigilante uniform in order to focus on his family. He’s doing that by serving as the principal of his daughter’s high school and trying to win back his ex-wife, but when a dangerous new gang begins running his city, he’s got to don the mask again to defend his turf. Seriously, it’s about damn time we got a black superhero on cable TV.

America’s Next Top Model (VH1, 8:00 p.m.) – The Top 15 models must walk the Venice Beach boardwalk before competing in a photoshoot challenge that fetishizes pregnancy. Not kidding.

Ellen’s Game of Games (NBC, 8:00 p.m.) – Ellen springs a couple new games on some unsuspecting contestants including one called Dizzy Dash, in which two competitors are spun back-to-back on a turntable while being asked trivia questions.

Lethal Weapon (Fox, 8:00 p.m.) — Murtaugh and Riggs respond to the murder of an escaped patient of Dr. Cahill’s who mysteriously goes off the rails but the investigation proves difficult for the two when Riggs’ anger issues return and Murtaugh finds himself at odds with his wife.

The Flash (CW, 8:00 p.m.) – Barry’s trial for the murder of Clifford DeVoe begins and Iris and Joe are confronted with the very real possibility of the superhero’s imprisonment.

The Middle (ABC, 8:00 p.m.) – Frankie pursues a new passion with the help of Reverend TimTom while Mike forces Sue and Brick to fix the giant hole between their bedroom walls that they’ve been complaining about for ages.

Fresh Off the Boat (ABC, 8:30 p.m.) – Louis tries to keep the spark alive in his marriage after worrying that Jessica’s budding writing career is causing her to lose interest in him.

Blackish (ABC, 9:00 p.m.) – Dre is chosen to head up a new campaign dubbed “The Talk” which highlights conversations that black parents have with their children to prepare them for racial bias and Bow finds an online support group.

LA -> Vegas (Fox, 9:00 p.m.) – Captain Dave’s rival, Captain Steve, is assigned to cover his routes while Dave takes a leave of absence.

This Is Us (NBC, 9:00 p.m.) – In the past, Jack and Rebecca take the kids to the mall while in the present, Kate goes wedding dress shopping and Randal investigates William’s past.

The Mick (Fox, 9:30 p.m.) – Mickey takes the kids to the family’s Manhattan penthouse for the weekend and Chip reconnects with his biological dad.

Kevin (Probably) Saves the World (ABC, 10:00 p.m.) – Kevin tries to help a mysterious Good Samaritan type raise money for a dog sanctuary but his good intentions backfire when secrets about the woman’s past are revealed.

Chicago Med (NBC, 10:00 p.m.) – Dr. Choi and Dr. Manning find themselves at odds with Dr. Charles over his medical decision regarding an ill newborn.
