When I saw that Wu-Tang Clan was going to be performing on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon last night, I became incredibly excited for a few reasons. First and foremost, because I am easily excitable, and every time I read a phrase like “featuring a performance by Wu-Tang” I start bouncing off the walls like a little kid who accidentally drank one of his older brother’s Red Bulls. Most of all, though, I was excited because Jimmy Fallon’s house band is The Roots, and this meant that two of my all-time favorite groups would be on stage playing together, on my television, FOR FREE.
What I did NOT expect, however, was a segment in the middle of the show where Fallon and lead guest Gerard Butler played “Bubble Soccer” with Wu-Tang members Ghostface Killah and RZA (who, by the way, just released an amazing music video for his new song with The Black Keys). The segment itself was kind of an underwhelming mess, but the concept alone was silly enough that it’s had me giggling all morning. I would honestly pay $10 for the unedited video of the Fallon show intern trying to explain the concept of Bubble Soccer to Ghostface Killah.
Both videos (the soccer and the performance) are posted below. Wu-Tang is for the children.
