Watch This Tourist Stun A Crowded Lincoln Memorial With Her Rendition Of ‘The Star-Spangled Banner’

Unexpectedly singing in public is generally frowned upon, but there are exceptions, typically when you’re really really good. Luckily for the assembled tourists at the Lincoln Memorial, Tallahassee assistant principal G. Star Swain is just that. A video of her shocking tourists with an impromptu rendition of “The Star-Spangled Banner ” was posted to Facebook on June 24 and has since gone mega-viral, racking up over 15 million views.

In the video, Swain admits that she’s scared to sing with a crowd around, but the cameraman convinces her to let loose. Any shyness melts away once Swain starts belting out the national anthem and a crowd quickly gathers to hear her spot-on rendition. Though the crowd applauds at the end of her performance, Swain quickly ducks out of frame, embarrassed again.

Commenters on YouTube and Facebook have told Swain how wowed they were by her performance. The top commenter on YouTube said he hadn’t “heard the Anthem sung with this much passion since Whitney Houston did back in 1990…as a retired Marine you made me feel awesome.”

In a post to her Facebook after the video blew up, Swain seems just as flustered as she did by her fans at the memorial.

“I am so wonderfully overwhelmed by the love and support shown by millions of people all over the nation and world,” she wrote.
