(UPDATE: This story has been confirmed as satire by The Independent after numerous mainstream news websites published it as true. As you can see from the text, this post expressed skepticism from the beginning.)

Notorious drug lord Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman has been quiet lately. The last we heard from the Sinaloa cartel head, he was licking his wounds after a close brush with recapture over a freaking monkey in October. After his elaborately planned escape from a Mexican maximum-security prison in July, El Chapo will eventually surface and be caught. Until then, he’s been at the mercy of his own son’s bad Twitter habits, but he’s found plenty of amusements while in seclusion.

For one thing, El Chapo saw fit to threaten Donald Trump and put a rumored bounty on the GOP candidate. Trump got nervous enough to phone the FBI for protection, but it seems El Chapo may have found new enemies. He has (allegedly) declared war on ISIS and not because of ISIS’ misdeeds. Nope, ISIS may have kicked El Chapo where it counted (right in the drugs) after destroying one of El Chapo’s very important shipments. Cartelblog.com claims to have acquired a leaked email:

“You [ISIS] are not soldiers. You are nothing but lowly p*ssies. Your god cannot save you from the true terror that my men will levy at you if you continue to impact my operation. My men will destroy you. The world is not yours to dictate. I pity the next son of a wh*re that tries to interfere with the business of the Sinaloa Cartel. I will have their heart and tongue torn from them.”

The Sinaloa Cartel and ISIS would never get along, “as drugs are not a part of the organizational ideology for a Muslim state.” Further, El Chapo would like a piece of that oil money. Who would be left standing? That’s a tough call to make, and this “war” could grow messier. The Sicilian Mafia reportedly offered to protect New York from ISIS, and new rumors say El Chapo wants to partner with the Sicilian Mafia. If the Mafia gets pulled into El Chapo vs. ISIS, this could get explosive. Or it could all be nothing.

Is this declaration real or fake? Forbes spoke with DEA spokesperson Rusty Payne, who said, “I don’t have any information to weigh in either way.”
