Samantha Bee And President Obama Discuss The ‘Female Equivalent’ Of Birtherism On ‘Full Frontal’

After a long weekend of buildup by TBS, Full Frontal with Samantha Bee closed out its Halloween episode with the host’s interview with President Obama. Describing it as part of a “long tradition going back to our first season where I sit down with the President of the United States before he or she leaves office,” Bee scored cheers from the crowd when she said “it was President Obama’s turn.” Unfortunately, Barack and Michelle’s fantastic “Thriller” number wasn’t involved, but that’s okay since he and Bee had plenty of other creepy, orange-colored things to discuss during the segment.

Like the birtherism movement and its loudest cheerleader, Donald Trump, whose laughable attempt to discredit questions about Obama’s birthplace in September turned out to be a hotel advertisement. Bee was especially interested in what the president thought the “female equivalent” of the charge “you weren’t born in this country” might be for Hillary Clinton. Obama’s response?

“I think the equivalent will be ‘she’s tired,’ ‘she’s moody,’ ‘she’s being emotional’ … ‘there’s something about her.’ When men are ambitious, it’s just taken for granted. ‘Well of course they should be ambitious!’ When women are ambitious, ‘Why?’ That theme, I think, will continue throughout her presidency, and it’s contributed to this notion that she’s hiding something.”

After joking about Clinton’s being a “nasty woman,” Bee then offered Obama a suggestion should he have to hand over the White House to President Trump:

BEE: After you leave office, have you thought of just whispering in Donald Trump’s ear ‘You were right! I wasn’t born here!’ just to mess with him?

OBAMA: I think it’s fair to say that I will be organizing my post-presidency where I’m not close enough to him to whisper in his ear.

Anyone else hear that noise?
