A Free Virtual Reality Game Is Coming From People Behind ‘Rick And Morty’ And ‘The Stanley Parable’

(Audio includes swearing.)

We just learned about Squanchtendo Games, the new virtual reality studio from Rick and Morty creator/voice actor Justin Roiland and Gears of War‘s Tanya Watson, and already there’s a collaboration to snag a free copy of soon. Roiland has teamed with Crows Crows Crows — run by The Stanley Parable‘s William Pugh — to make Accounting.

The trailer starts out looking like another VR job simulator game, until you put on a pair of VR goggles inside the game (BRAAAAAAAM) and you’re accosted by a Justin Roiland-voiced character who wants you to get the f*ck out of his tree world. No, it doesn’t make any sense, and the press release is delightfully absurd as well:

“Numbers. What do they mean? The modern field of Accountancy is a serious and honorable profession. Many human beings have spent their lives toiling over the hard science of numbers. Thousands have died so that we may get to the level of understanding that we have today. Thousands have died. However, as Accountants and Numbersmiths embraced the abacus and the calculator, today we must embrace the latest technological advancement. Virtual Reality.”

Accounting will soon be free on Steam as an HTC Vive exclusive. As the official press release says, “We’re putting it out as a complementary experience ($0.00) in exchange for the undying love and gratitude of humanity.” We’re going to throw them whatever the exact opposite of a Jerryboree is to celebrate.
