Yeah, bitch! Heroin and towers!
When we last checked in on the long saga to bring the long saga The Dark Tower to the screen, Universal had already passed on the three movie and two seasons of a TV show so they could lose more money Battleship. After that, Warner Brothers acquired then passed on the script for the first movie, in which Russell Crowe may have replaced Javier Bardem to portray Roland Deschain. Then Media Rights Capital (MRC) wanted to use some of their boatloads of cash from Ted to take over the project, with Ron Howard, Akiva Goldsman, and Brian Grazer still involved.
Now let’s get to the good news. Aaron Paul (Jesse Pinkman on Breaking Bad) just made our day by tweeting that playing Eddie Dean in The Dark Tower is a “HUGE dream” of his. He then followed that up by saying, “Serious question: Who here doesn’t know ‘The Dark Tower’ series by Stephen King? If you don’t know it go get it now. You will thank me.”
For those unfamiliar with the character, Eddie Dean is a 23-year-old heroin addict from New York City who joins Roland Deschain partway into the series. Aaron Paul is frickin’ perfect for that, and I’m not the only one who thought so:
Lost‘s Damon Lindelof, once attached to the adaptation, cosigned Paul as “the best Eddie ever.” King has called Breaking Bad “an American classic” — care to weigh in, Uncle Stevie? [Vulture]
I’m just so happy I could dance!
This needs to happen. However it will never work as just movies. It must be a TV series to cover even a 10th of the ground in the books.
I could definitely see that guy as Eddie though. I haven’t watched breaking bad but Paul has a fitting look in a lot of the shots I’ve seen around the web.
Holy shit, that’s the best casting idea I’ve heard in a long time. Because of this, it will never happen. As for Roland, Bardem would be good, but lately I’ve been thinking Fassbender would kill the role.
I always thought Viggo Mortensenv would play a killer Roland…and I never gave it much thought but Aaron Paul as Eddie is a match made in heaven.
It’s a good thing he was the one that said he’d be good for the role instead of some random dream casting report because if there’s anyone that can get a role because h wants it it’s Paul.
you know what? Fassbender probably WOULD kill the role. I never would have thought of him as Roland but if they darkened up his hair and weathered him up a bit he would be perfect.
Man, Aaron Paul would be an amazing Eddie.
I’d like to see Taylor Lautner as Roland and Russell Brand as Eddie. More cocaine please.
I read the first book, this should flick’n happen! Mr King has written more than one — hm
