FX's Emmy-winning critical favorite “Louie” has been renewed for a fifth season.
That's the good news that was announced on Monday (July 21) morning at the Television Critics Association press tour.
Unfortunately, the news isn't all good. The fifth season “Louie” renewal is only for seven episodes, after 13-episode orders for each of the first four seasons.
Of course, episode orders for “Louie” aren't set in stone. Last season, after taking 2013 off, “Louie” had a 13 episode order, but creator Louis C.K. returned to FX with a 14-episode season.
That fourth season, which tied for the Television Critics Association award for Outstanding Comedy Series, was nominated for five Emmys and saw Louis C.K. experiment with form on a six-episode arc, a three-episode arc and a 90-minute episode that's technically classified as two episodes.
Maybe the fifth season will be one eight-episode arc and one negative-one episode arc?
“'Louie”s' fourth season was once again groundbreaking. Sometimes hilarious, sometimes heartbreaking – always thought provoking,” states FX CEO John Landgraf. “The show went to narrative and cinematic places no comedy has gone before and we look forward to seeing what Louis comes up with next.”
The fifth season of “Louie” will premiere in Spring 2015.
