Watch: ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’s’ Djimon Honsou says James Gunn is ‘a kid in a candy store’

I think it’s fair to say that James Gunn is super-stoked to be directing “Guardians of the Galaxy.”

“It’s actually exciting to work with a director like that who’s just like a kid,” Djimon Honsou (playing Kree supervillain Korath the Pursuer) told us at San Diego Comic-Con on Saturday. “You know, he’s just like a kid in a candy store. Everything is fun, everything’s exciting, everything’s a new adventure, and so he’s a great vehicle for this film.”

As for Del Toro, he sees similarities between his character – the three-billion-year-old Collector – and attendees at Comic-Con.

“He’s a collector, like almost every fan in Comic-Con,” the actor told us of – you guessed it, the Collector – following the Marvel superhero film’s “surprise” Hall H reveal. “And myself. We all collect things.”

And that’s about all he was at liberty to say, really. In fact, unlike many of his fellow co-stars Del Toro hadn’t even been to the set yet.

“I haven’t started yet,” he told us. “But I think it’s gonna be fun, and I think we’re gonna be happy when we see the film, judging by the clip that we saw today…it was unique.”

“Guardians of the Galaxy” is slated for release on August 1, 2014.
