TV Ratings: ABC’s ‘Malibu Country’ premiere tops NBC telethon, ‘Undercover Boss’ on Friday

Fast National ratings for Friday, November 2, 2012.
Is TGIF back on ABC?
The return of “Last Man Standing” and the series premiere of “Malibu Country” drew big numbers on Friday for ABC, dominating an 8 p.m. hour that included the return of “Undercover Boss” and NBC’s “Hurricane Sandy: Coming Together.” The comedies also helped “Shark Tank” build at 9 p.m. as ABC dominated Friday among young viewers.
CBS still led Friday overall, but it’s clear ABC has something to build on here.
Meanwhile, it was another low week for “Fringe,” but The CW’s “Nikita” got a big bump (still waiting to hear from The CW if there was a preemption-based explanation).
On to the numbers…
Among adults 18-49, ABC ruled Friday with a 2.0 rating, far ahead of CBS and NBC’s 1.4 ratings in the key demographic. FOX was fourth with a 1.0 key demo rating, while The CW averaged a 0.4 key demo rating.
Overall, though, CBS averaged an estimated 9.605 million viewers and a 6.3 rating/11 share for Friday night, beating ABC’s 4.5/6 and 7.04 million viewers. NBC’s 3.4/6 and 5.25 million viewers beat the 1.7/3 and 2.77 million viewers for FOX. The CW averaged a 0.8/1 and 1.21 million viewers for Friday night.
8 p.m. – ABC’s “Last Man Standing” (7.84 million viewers and a 1.9 key demo) and “Malibu Country” (8.9 million viewers and a 2.2 key demo) both won their slots overall and among adults 18-49. CBS’ “Undercover Boss” premiere averaged 7.95 million viewers and a 1.5 key demo rating for second. [That’s nearly 3 million viewers below what “UB” drew in its Friday premiere last February and only slightly more viewers than “Made in Jersey” premiered with in September.]  NBC’s “Hurricane Sandy: Coming Together” telethon averaged 6.255 million viewers and a 1.5 key demo rating, topping the 2.93 million viewers and 1.0 key demo rating for FOX’s “Kitchen Nightmares.” On The CW, “America’s Next Top Model” averaged 1.25 million viewers and a 0.4 key demo rating.
9 p.m. – CBS moved into first overall in the 9 p.m. hour with 9.96 million viewers for “CSI: NY,” but slipped to third among adults 18-49 with a 1.5 rating. ABC’s “Shark Tank” averaged 7.32 million viewers for second and won the hour with a 2.3 key demo rating. NBC’s “Grimm” was third with 5.67 million viewers and second with a 1.8 key demo rating, both down a hair from last week. FOX’s “Fringe” averaged 2.61 million viewers and a 1.0 key demo rating, in line with last week’s low numbers. On The CW, “Nikita” averaged 1.17 million viewers and a 0.4 key demo rating, enough above its season averages to look suspicious. Or maybe people just rediscovered “Nikita”?
10 p.m. – “Blue Bloods” led 10 p.m. overall for CBS and finished second with a 1.3 rating among adults 18-49. ABC’s “20/20” was second with 5.42 million viewers and won the hour with a 1.5 key demo rating. NBC’s “Dateline” averaged 3.83 million viewers and a 1.1 key demo rating.
