We’ve seen dozens of backfist-related knockouts in MMA before, but it’s rare that one has ever felt as Wayne Brady-esque as the one you are about to witness.
Taken from last weekend’s Jungle Fight 90 event between flyweights Deiveson Figueiredo and Denis Oliveira Fontes, this knockout is quite possibly the most ill-intentioned, dastardly-looking backhand that has ever been executed inside a cage. It’s a dusting of baby powder away from being a scene in How High. And it’s a surefire “Knockout of the Year” contender to boot.
It might not surprise you to learn that Figueirido, the man behind what has since been dubbed a “pimp slap” knockout, is a perfect 10-0 as a professional. Confidence is 90 percent of the fight game, and there is no more alpha a manner in which to win a fight than a well-timed backhand across the jaw. It would be like submitting your opponent in a BJJ match by flexing or winning the NCAA championship with an F-5. Not since that kid flipped a water bottle in his talent show have I seen an act of such unfiltered bravado and skill.
Mighty Mouse’s days at the top are surely numbered.
