While the Knicks are busy making moves before their most important draft decision of the last decade, Carmelo Anthony made a pretty impressive move himself. ‘Melo reached an agreement with Nickelodeon to become the creative director for a line of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles products. The line, called Turtles by Melo, will feature home furnishings, lifestyle products, video games and more. ‘Melo talked to Hollywood Reporter about his new endeavor:
“I am so excited about the opportunity to work with the Nickelodeon team on this new Turtles venture,” said Anthony.
“The Turtles were a big part of my childhood. I have been connecting with the brand for a long time,” Anthony, 31, tells The Hollywood Reporter. Nowadays, “I watch with my son,” who is 8, he adds.
‘Melo has strong commitment to expanding his off-court brand. It’s a large reason why he’s playing for a New York franchise. His stardom affords him the opportunity to be involved in a range of business, tech and film opportunies. ‘Melo is already scheduled to make a cameo in the new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles film. That’s why a Nickelodeon executive thinks this can be a successful partnership.
“Carmelo is ideal for this new consumer products line because he is genuinely a super-fan, and of course he’s an iconic celebrity with global appeal,” says Kaufman. “He speaks with authenticity and love for the Turtles, and his presence will get the accompanying products into different aisles at retail.”
The Knicks didn’t find a lot of success on the court this season, but that’s not stopping Carmelo from succeeding off the court.
