In the wake of Trump’s election there has been a sharp increase of hate crimes against minorities, women, and people of color. The latest, and particularly disturbing incident is the defacement of a park in Brooklyn that honors Beastie Boys member Adam Yauch, aka MCA, who died of cancer in 2012. The park was graffitied with swastikas and the tag “Go Trump.” Yauch was born to a Jewish mother and a Catholic father, and infamously stood against Islamophobia in 1998 at the VMAs.
Several people shared photos of the graffiti, decrying the hateful symbols, especially on a memorial site where children play:

The park is located in Brooklyn Heights, a neighborhood in downtown Brooklyn where Yauch grew up. Gothamist reported the incident, and noted that swastikas had also been found tagged at the New School in Manhattan earlier this week. Trump has faced a lot of criticism for his recent cabinet appointments, one in particular is Steve Bannon, who helmed the site Breitbart and made it a safe space for anti-semitism.
