I haven’t really been keeping up with the life of Smashing Pumpkins’ frontman Billy Corgan since, oh I dunno, 1997? I saw the Pumpkins in concert back in the day, and as much as I liked their studio albums, it was one of the most obnoxious, grating, incoherent and screeching live performances I’ve ever witnessed. But Corgan hasn’t gone away; he’s simply moved to Crazy Town. Josh apprised us last year of his more recent episodes of crazy — including his foray into indie wrestling, a spiritual website, and a Twitter war with Courtney Love — and he’s also apparently opened his own tea shop, a little slice of caffeinated bonkers in Chicago.
Now he’s also stumping for furniture in a local commercial that also features stars of his Resistance Pro Wrestling. The commercial is a lot like most commercials: It’s obnoxious, senseless, and grating, which is also a fairly apt description fo Billy Corgan these days. But kudos to the alt-Voldemort: He is shameless about giving up his dignity. He leaves it all out there, including most of his pride.
