The devastating floods in Louisiana have taken their toll on the state’s residents leaving some dead and many more displaced. With his Baton Rouge being one of the hardest hit areas, Boosie Badazz, one of the city’s favorite native sons, is stepping up to provide assistance to those who suffered and find themselves in need.

In an series of Instagram posts shared on Monday, the rapper and his associates can be loading up a U-Haul truck full of goods to be donated to the relief effort. “We sending 20,000 pairs of socks, draws, underwear for kids, women, men,” he announces in video uploaded to the social network.

Boosie’s often seen as a symbol of hope to residents of Baton Rouge. Even though he moved away in recent years, his rise to prominence in music first started in his hometown and he’s continually shouted the city out throughout his whole career. He’s one of the guys who made it from a place where crime and violence often knock people off the pathway to success. Understanding how much he means to them, he offers words of encouragement to the people suffering the most right now. “As you know my city and the surrounding of Baton Rouge got hit with a real bad storm,” Boosie said. “A lot of people lost everything. Just want to let all y’all know that we gone see better days.”

He goes on to indicate that he feels for those who have suffered losses of any kind due to the flood. For Boosie, it’s something he can relate to after having faced his share of trials and tribulations. “One time we lost everything to a fire at my momma house,” he said. “Went to prison, I almost lost everything also, so I know that feeling of losing a lot. So, we giving back…But you already know, Louisiana, we strong people down here. We praying people, too, so we gone bounce back.”

Entertainers and celebs don’t have to be role models. What they should do is find ways to give back to the people who support them. Boosie himself would admit he’s not an angel by any stretch of the imagination, but his donation shows his heart and intentions are good.
