Before Eminem introduced an entire generation of bored, farm-raised white kids to this crazy little thing called rap, there was Will Smith, who wasn’t such a rapper as a guy who spoke a little faster than most singers. Big Willie Style was the first album I ever purchased with my (parents’) hard-earned money that was filed under the hip-hop section in Sam Goody, and it was also the last. Will Smith album, that is. I borrowed a friend’s copy of Willennium. Anyway, that’s why I still have fond feelings for “Gettin’ Jiggy wit It,” the third and most successful single from Big Willie Style.
Also, it’s a great song, made even better when it’s mashed up with Daft Punk’s “Get Lucky.”
