All credit due to Future for giving DJ Esco a prominent role in everything he does. They’re like the trap version of Guru and Premo in that sense. While they’re out on the road for the Summer Sixteen tour with Drake, the duo is still finding ways to promote Project E.T.: Esco Terrestrial by releasing a 7-minute long video for “Married to the Game,” which also teases a full documentary of the same name.
The GT Films-directed visual starts out with Future in the studio asking Esco about the 56 days (or nights, as they put it) he spent in jail for marijuana possession in Dubai. At the end of the conversation, the DJ hands over one of the hard drives he had been locked up with, much to the rapper’s delight. With the laidback song serving as the backdrop, the video sprinkles in performance and backstage footage of the duo and Metro Boomin dating back to 2011, showing how their relationships have developed over the past four years.
At one point, the video breaks for a Future radio call-in about what’s next for Freebandz Gang now that Esco and Metro are superstars in their own right. The rapper praises Esco in particular, stating “I just feel like his talent, his executive skill is coming to light but it’s even more going to come fruition. Everything is about to happen on another level more so after this tour. 2017, I feel like they gon really get a chance to see a DJ that went from DJ to A&R to executive to just making a long lasting career.”
The last few minutes of the video preview the forthcoming documentary, including footage of Gucci Mane in the studio. In the meantime, check out the previously released “Benjamins” and “Juice” videos.
