“Nobody Speak,” the banger off of DJ Shadow’s new album, The Mountain Will Fall featuring Run the Jewels, has easily been one of my favorite songs of the summer. The beat is thumping, the horns are infectious and Killer Mike and El-P’s signature assaulting delivery is on point, as per usual. Back in June, the dudes crushed a performance of the song on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon and now they’ve followed that up with the video for the song, which you guessed it, is pretty dope.
The video depicts our current state of politics viewed through the eyes of DJ Shadow and Run the Jewels — mainly old white dudes hurling insults at one another before all hell breaks lose and fists start getting thrown around. Killer Mike and El-P’s verses are lip-synced by two rival politicians, while their colleagues look on in disgust, amazement and horror. The rappers and DJ have brief, blink-and-you-miss-it cameos as fellow members of this crew of animals pose as a governing body.
Run the Jewels teased the Sam Pilling-directed video on Monday, while DJ Shadow claims that they wanted to make “a positive life-affirming video at their election-year best” before admitting that they “got this instead.” Killer Mike sang the praises of the video as well.
“It’s such a dope video. It’s what I really wish Trump and Hillary would just do and get it over with…And even in that fight I think Hillary would win — and that’s not an endorsement.”
Not an endorsement indeed as Killer Mike recently said the he doesn’t see much of a difference between the Republican and Democratic nominees for President.
