Now at 23 years old, Frances Bean Cobain has never demonstrated any musical inspirations to follow in the footsteps of her famous parents. Turning instead to modeling and artwork, the daughter of Kurt Cobain and Courtney Love has even gone so far to say that she’s not a big fan of Nirvana, or grunge music in general — favoring instead bands like Mercury Rev, Oasis, and Brian Jonestown Massacre. (Despite the fact that she ended up marrying a ringer for her late father, whom she has since filed for divorce from.)
So it’s kind of a big deal that Cobain recently posted this short, four second long video to Instagram of her covering Jimmy Eat World’s 2001 hit, “The Middle,” dressed like Fred Flintstone… as one does! And as you can hear as she strums away, Cobain does indeed have a lovely voice. Prior to this video, Cobain’s only foray into the musical world had been a guest spot on Amanda Palmer’s 2010 collaborative album Evelyn Evelyn.
No longer estranged from Cobain these days, Courtney Love also proudly shared her talented daughter’s video on Instagram, writing, “I know your father is very proud of this as am I baby, I love you to the moon and back ❤️❤️ #proudmommy.”

Here’s hoping this won’t be the last we hear from Cobain, musically.
