French Montana’s ‘Unforgettable’ Video Is What Swae Lee Was Doing In Africa

Now we know what Swae Lee was doing in Africa. Though French Montana is from Morocco, he took Rae Sremmurd member to Uganda for their video for “Unforgettable.”

Showcasing some of the same icy vocals that were all over SremmLife 2, Swae handles the vast majority of the song singing bridges, the hook and a verse. The video finds French and Swae dancing with the locals in front of cell phone stands and in alleyways. The end of the video suggests that the clip is part of a larger narrative that will show French stumbling across a diamond-mining operation with some unfriendly looking guards. When French posted the original version of the song last year to his Instagram (featuring Jeremih in the place of Swae), he wrote “THIS SH*T A MOOVIEEEE.” While that post has been deleted, it looks like French kept his promise to make a movie.

The song and clip continue a few themes that we’ve seen emerge in the last year. Namely, rappers mining worldbeat sounds and traveling to Africa, though French Montana certainly gets a pass considering he hails from the continent. It follows a popular video of Ugandan children dancing to the song and several clips of that are scattered throughout the music video. Check it out up top.
