Gucci Mane Praises His Sons Lil Yachty, Lil Uzi Vert And The Rest Of Rap’s New Generation

On Tuesday, Gucci Mane posted a video on Instagram showing him clipping off his ankle monitoring bracelet with his girlfriend, Keyshia Ka’oir, chiming in with “It’s over with.” The rapper’s already taking advantage of the freedom by flying up to New York for an in-studio interview with Hot 97’s Funkmaster Flex to promote the October 17 release of his next album Woptober. Naturally, the legendary DJ asked Gucci about his jail experience and helped promote the new music, but the most interesting segment of the interview was in response to Flex’s question about possible collaborations.

Gucci has already said his piece about his influence in the rap game with “All My Children.” Now he’s moving on to raising up Atlanta’s newest generation. As he says in the interview, “There’s nothing in Atlanta that ever moves that I don’t touch.” For him, that means rappers like 21 Savage, Lil Uzi Vert, and Lil Yachty.

“[I want to work with] anybody who hot and the kids say he hot, I think is hot,” Gucci stated, adding he doesn’t form a judgmental opinion about them because it’s not his place. It’s a different approach than people like Pete Rock or Ab-Soul, but one that Gucci shares with 9th Wonder.

“At the end of the day, it’s a different generation. It’s theirs, it’s not mine. Instead of me judging it, I embrace it and support it and commend them. They’re creative, they’re smart. [I] look how they market themselves. I put my niche on it and adapt it to when I roll my stuff out.”

When Flex asked his relationship with Young Thug, Gucci explained how he linked rap’s current fashion icon with his current label, 300 Entertainment.

“I was getting wind of him dealing to a lot of different people. I called him and told him, ‘Listen, I’m going to do this deal with [300 Entertainment co-founder] Todd [Moscowitz] because I want you in the best hands. He’s going to make it where you can push you own label. You can go as far as you can.’ I didn’t want anyone taking advantage of him. I wanted him to be his own boss.”

Unsurprisingly, Gucci had little to say about former friend Waka Flocka, simply stating, “It’s done.” That’s old news, though, and Gucci’s ready to keep it moving.
