America has a love/hate relationship with the Black Eyed Peas. They’re like the Entourage of bands in that way, I guess. Everyone bitches about them but they still sell-out shows and sell a gazillion records. Sure, people like Jeff Tweedy can pwn them, but the band is laughing all the way to the bank.
But now some people’s long national nightmare may be over as the band appears ever more likely to be, like Entourage, calling it quits. Rumors have been swirling for some time and over the weekend Kanye West eulogized them during a concert in Austin, Texas just as he was wrapping up his performance of “All of the Lights.”
Reports the Boombox:
Headlining the first day of Austin City Limits Music Festival in Austin, Texas Friday night (Sept. 16), Kanye West called out an impromptu eulogy for the mega popular rap group, adding further speculation to the rumors that will.i.am and co. may be taking an extended break.
Against a backdrop of fog and laser beams, Kanye wrapped up the performance of his epic single ‘All of the Lights’ by playing BEP front woman Fergie’s verse, and announcing “Rest in peace to the Black Eyed Peas. You’re gonna be missed!”
Here’s video of it all — the bit about BEP comes in around the 4:30 mark…
Without the Black Eyed Peas, who’ll be around to give Super Bowl halftime performances that everyone hates on? Since it seems like every time I go to Walmart I run across a BEP display, I vote for this Walmart employee chorus…
