Kanye West is no stranger to controversy. In fact, he revels in it. So he should be well prepared when the proverbial sh*t hits the fan over his Yeezy Season 4 fashion show casting call.
The designer/rapper/producer took to Twitter to release very specific details and they’re sure to upset people. “Multiracial women only. No makeup please come as you are,” he said while releasing details for the open casting call. It’s no surprise he has a specific look for what he wants the show to be, Kanye has always been hands on and detailed when it comes to his work. However, his Yeezy Season 3 casting call did not come with race-specific details, even though there was a weird, long list of rules for the participants.
What makes the racial component even stranger was the racial innuendo that accompanied the Season 3 show at Madison Square Garden, where the stage and show ended up being full of people of color while the Kardashians were paraded around in the VIP section, decked in glowing white gowns. Eventually, Kanye will cite some sort of artistic or aesthetic reasoning, but for the moment it’s at best unfortunate and at worst an ugly, racist decision and choice of words for Kanye to not only exclude various races but outright ask that they don’t even show up.
The Yeezy Season 4 unveiling will be broadcast live on the E! Network on September 7th at P.M. EST.
