Last week we mentioned that Australian billionaire James Packer is going to make Mariah Carey the happiest woman in the world for the third time, after he proposed to the elusive chanteuse during an evening out in New York City. We also mentioned that Packer sealed the deal with a 35-carat ring, and speculated how the hell big a 35-carat ring is. We didn’t have long to wait to find out, and in a nutshell, big.
Carey and Packer stepped out Thursday evening in their first public appearance as an engaged couple at a black-tie gala in Los Angeles, and the Grammy-winning artist flashed her rock for cameras.
Uh, did I mention that it’s REALLY FREAKING BIG?
For some perspective as far as ginormous celebrity engagement rings go: Mariah’s last engagement ring from Nick Cannon was just 17 carats, Kim Kardashian’s ring from Kanye West is an unimpressive measly 15 carats (although her ring from Kris Humphries was 20.5), Chad Kroeger proposed to Avril Lavigne with a 14-carat ring and then upgraded to a 17-carat one a year later (and how did that work out for him, lol), and both Beyonce and Kate Middleton sport 18-carat rings.
So much diamond. But we’d expect nothing less from an actual billionaire proposing to Mariah Carey. Seems as good a reason as any to break out the champagne!
