The Men In Black reboot is losing Will Smith, but gaining a woman in black.
The fourth film in the action-comedy series, about the galaxy defenders who won’t let you remember, is coming along slowly, possibly with a 21 Jump Street crossover. But in an interview with the BBC, producer Laurie MacDonald said, “There will be a prominent woman in black in the fourth [film].” It probably won’t be the alien-lady from the “MIB” music video.
“We are quite early on in it,” [MacDonald’s husband and co-producer Walter Parkes] said. “We sort of looked at the first three in retrospect as a bit of a trilogy… We tried to tell a story about those two characters and that relationship. It sounds silly because it’s a fun, science fiction comedy, but when you work on these things you sort of try to find some thematic basis underneath it.”
“Now we are looking at a reinvention,” Parkes added. “But it’s a wonderful world to get back into.” (Via)
Technically, there’s already been a female agent. The first Men In Black movie ended with Smith’s Agent J pairing with Linda Fiorentino’s Agent L. But she was awkwardly retconned from Men In Black II, because who’d want to fight aliens when you can work in a morgue? Emma Thompson was also Agent O in Men In Black III, but that movie never happened.
A woman in black is cool and all, but I’m still waiting on a female worm.
Why can’t it be the worm guys and girl?
