Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez didn’t date for all that long, but they were the Great Romance of Our Time, according to fans of the pop stars. And to think, it all started with a date at IHOP (what, you feel you’re too good for Perkins, Bieber?). But despite the breakup, their professional (they performed “Strong” together) and personal (he says he’ll probably never get over her) lives continue to be intertwined, especially when a third party is involved.
Over the weekend, Bieber pleaded, “I’m gonna make my Instagram private if you guys don’t stop the hate this is getting out of hand, if you guys are really fans you wouldn’t be so mean to people that I like.” Belibers aren’t happy that their Canadian idol is “tooling around” with 17-year-old Sofia Richie (as in, Lionel’s daughter and Nicole’s sister), and Selenators — that’s the horrible nickname Gomez gave her fans — are swamping his Instagram with the snake emoji. Rather than tell to them back off, Gomez encouraged the trolling.
“If you can’t handle the hate, then stop posting pictures of your girlfriend lol,” she wrote. “It should be special between you two only. Don’t be mad at your fans. They love you.” Gomez, who later edited that last sentence to read, “They love and supported you before anyone ever did,” also uploaded a photo.
Bieber’s response: “It’s funny to see people that used me for attention and still try to point the finger this way. Sad. All love.” Aw, he thinks he’s Kanye. By this point, teens worldwide were turning into the Bill Hader popcorn GIF, and that’s even before Gomez dropped this bombshell: “Funny how the ones that cheated multiple times are pointing the finger at the ones that were forgiving and supportive. No wonder fans are mad. Sad. All love.” Brutal.
