They’re a bit less Posh and tad less Sporty, but it looks like the Spice Girls are following through on the long rumored/teased Spice reunion chatter. At least that’s what the video above seems to be suggesting.
A brand new website has been launched under the Spice Girls GEM banner (three guesses on what those letters stand for) and a video from Geri, Emma, and Mel B greets you in the center of the page. In the clip, the trio gush about the 20th anniversary of their smash “Wannabe” and promise something special is coming around the bend. All three give a glowing endorsement of their fans and declare that some sort of party will be had. What can we expect from this party? Geri, Emma and Mel B didn’t say, although it certainly looks like Victoria and Mel C will be absent from the celebration. (Not that we weren’t warned about a reduced lineup in advance.)
According to producer Eliot Kennedy, he’s been working with the GEM faction on new music. He’s quite bullish on the results, too.
He told ITV’s Good Morning Britain: “We have been in the studio, with just three of them – Mel B and Geri and Emma – and we had a fantastic couple of days.
“We wrote a brilliant song and the energy was exactly like it was 20 years ago, just as enthusiastic, just as much to say, just as much to celebrate.
“I think they have something to do with way female artists are perceived in the pop charts nowadays, I think they’ve had a massive effect on pop music and pop culture, so it’s a good time to celebrate.”
As long as Emma gets a Free Me singles solo showcase at any potential shows, we’re 10000 percent onboard. Or a new line of Chupa Chups. That’s fine too. We’ll keep you posted on what Spice Girls GEM has in store for the globe when the announcement arrives.
