The Knife Recovered From O.J. Simpson’s Former Estate May Not Have Any DNA On It

Did you hear the one about a new knife in the O.J. Simpson case that coincidentally turned up when American Crime Story started airing? To recap, a former LAPD cop kept a knife from O.J. Simpson’s property, and then around a month before the show started airing, he wanted to frame the knife and engrave the frame with the LAPD case number. So, he called up a cop buddy to ask for the number. Being that the case is technically still open because of Simpson’s acquittal, though, he had to turn the knife over to the LAPD, where it was being tested for new DNA evidence.

Now, TMZ says that anonymous sources have told them that the LAPD has found no new evidence on the knife that would add anything to this case. Apparently, microbes in the soil degraded any usable evidence that might have been found on the knife. There was also no other DNA source, like hair. So, just a random knife one would find buried in a yard? Not so fast.

The Wrap did a follow-up report on this revelation, and an LAPD spokesman told them that the lead investigator “advised that he has not received any such information yet from the crime lab.”

So, does this mean that… no idea. All we know is TMZ is sticking to their guns in their update despite what the LAPD says. We also know that this is, indeed, a knife and that O.J. is still in prison for a different crime. So, keep an eye out for the actual conclusion of this weird last detail in this more than two-decade-long saga.
