If you’ve ever tried to find something on Facebook, it’s an unfriendly reminder of what web searching was like back in 1998. You try one combination of letters, then another, then another, and fifteen minutes later, that friend you want actually shows up.
Unlike most UI tweaks, Facebook is actually trying to make good and deliver a search that will actually let you go through your friend’s posts.
And they’re not goofing around, either: they’ve got a team of two dozen engineers led by Lars Rassmussen, who despite his name is Australian. Rasmussen is best known for being one of the key players in Google Maps, so there’s no shortage of talent being thrown at this problem.
Of course, Facebook could just let Google into their walled garden, but we all know that will never happen.
