Chris Christie Is A Good Catholic Boy Despite Using Birth Control

We’re only at the first presidential debate, and I already want to give up. As if Donald Trump’s daily shenanigans aren’t enough, now candidate and New Jersey governor Chris Christie is on the campaign trail TMI-ing about his sex life.

In the YouTube clip above, Christie, at a New Hampshire church, talks about how he uses birth control despite being Catholic (and a Republican, amirite?). In his own words:

I’m a Catholic, but I’ve used birth control, and not just the rhythm method, okay? My church has a teaching against birth control. Does that make me an awful Catholic? Because I believe, and practiced, that function during part of my life? I don’t think so. But you know what? I’m only going to find out when it’s my time to be judged.

It’s hard to tell from this 30-second clip what the context of Christie’s quote exactly is, but it’s interesting given his competitor Rick Santorum’s recent comments that he doesn’t use birth control, as MSNBC points out. Lest you think Christie is positioning himself as a moderate, though, the outlet also mentions that he backed a 20-week abortion ban in New Jersey, and that he supported the Supreme Court’s decision to let Hobby Lobby opt out of providing birth control coverage to their employees.

There’s also this Yahoo! report that describes Christie’s opposition against Planned Parenthood.

So, that clip above basically signifies nothing but Christie telling us that he’s had safe sex before. With everything else, he seems uninterested in extending the same opportunity to other Americans. Cool, can’t wait to hear him expand on these views during Thursday’s debate, for which he secured the 9th spot.

Oh, and Public Policy Polling just issued a poll pitting Donald Trump, Hillary Clinton and an Independent candidate who calls himself Deez Nuts against each other, with Deez Nuts already getting 8% voters’ support in this poll.

What even is this election?
