Did This School Board Member Campaign At Her Opponent’s Daughter’s Funeral?

Is this a terrible coincidence or a local school board race turned dirty? Questions are swirling after campaign flyers for Kathy Korte, an Albuquerque Public Schools board member, were reportedly found on cars parked at the funeral for her opponent’s daughter.

Amberlee Aragon, Peggy Mueller Aragon’s daughter, was killed earlier this month in a car crash. An anonymous funeral attendee sent a picture to KOB 4 Eyewitness News of Korte’s campaign flyer, which she claims she found on her car on the day of the funeral. The Korte campaign is disputing whether the car was parked at French’s Funeral home where the service was held or in a parking lot nearby Peter Piper Pizza and a pediatric center, a prime campaigning location.

Korte is denying the allegations and says she is “offended” and “whoever did this should be ashamed of themselves.”

“I don’t know how that assumption was even or could even be made except by somebody who had a very horrible warped mind,” said Kathy Korte.

If Korte’s campaign did it, this is some pretty despicable campaigning for a local school board election. If this is a ploy by Aragon’s campaign to gain sympathy, it is even worse. This is a local school board election. No need for these candidates to go all Tracy Flick on each other.
