The Humans of New York website features slice-of-life photos of Big Apple residents with illuminating captions. One photo in particular has gone viral, as it captures a heartbreaking young man on the brink of existential despair.
In this photo’s caption, the boy comes out as gay. This fellow is afraid of the future in more than the usual teenage way. He’s not sure if the world will accept him: “I’m homosexual, and I’m afraid about what my future will be and that people won’t like me.”
Commenters flooded the site’s Facebook page with support. One comment in particular, from Hillary Clinton, has made headlines.
Ellen DeGeneres followed closely behind with her own life experience.
Thousands of other Facebook commenters spilled forth with their own words of encouragement. This kid is going to be alright.
