Earlier this week Josh mentioned that North Korea was not exactly cool with Seth Rogen and James Franco’s upcoming movie The Interview, in which they play tabloid reporters recruited by the CIA to assassinate Kim Jong-un. Just how not cool with it are they, exactly?

A North Korean foreign ministry spokesman said in state media that the movie’s release would be an “act of war” …

The North Korea spokesman was quoted by the state KCNA news agency as saying: “Making and releasing a movie on a plot to hurt our top-level leadership is the most blatant act of terrorism and war and will absolutely not be tolerated.”

“If the US administration allows and defends the showing of the film, a merciless counter-measure will be taken,” the spokesman was quoted as saying.

“Merciless counter-measure.” That sounds, uh … Not good. But surely North Korea doesn’t have the kind of power to launch an all out strike on the United States, do they?

Apparent evidence emerged last week supporting claims that North Korea is further developing its missile technology. Some experts said they had identified a new anti-ship cruise missile shown in a North Korean propaganda film.

JESUS CHRIST. Are we seriously quite possibly on the verge of war because the chubby kid who dated a hermaphrodite in Freaks and Geeks wrote a funny movie about assassinating a megalomaniacal dictator? All I know is that I would not want to live in the offending district of Hollywood which conveniently happens to be closest to North Korea right about now.

Tell me: Is this a trailer of a movie that’s worth dying over?

Okay, it does actually look pretty funny.
