The 49ers Promote Jim Tomsula To Head Coach

The 49ers may have chased a successful coach out of the NFL but at least they limited their mistakes by not replacing Jim Harbaugh with someone like Josh McDaniels. Instead, the Niners have promoted defensive line coach Jim Tomsula to be the next head coach. One might presume that if they got someone within the organization, it would have been defensive coordinator Vic Fangio, but no one pretends to know what the Niners are thinking these days.

Tomsula’s tenure with the team predates Harbaugh. He joined the team in 2007 during Mike Nolan’s tenure and served as interim coach after the Niners fired Mike Singletary. And while he might just be a touch less insane than Harbaugh, he makes up for it by looking like Ron Jeremy and screaming for his players to bludgeon.

There were reports that the Niners were close to hiring Broncos offensive coordinator Adam Gase, but the team informed Gase that he won’t be getting the job, which means Gase might still return to Denver to be their next head coach, which it’s been reported is what Peyton Manning prefers.
