Amy Schumer Went On An Instagram Rant About Trump Voters Being Misinformed Using A Fake, Debunked Meme

Amy Schumer has publicly expressed her feelings about Donald Trump quite often. Not only did her comments during a stand-up show in Florida cause a mass exodus, but she subsequently stood by her words and addressed the walkout with additional jokes and jabs. Which why her latest contribution to the political discourse, which comes in the form of a lengthy Instagram rant, comes as no surprise. What is surprising, however, is her unfortunate use of a debunked quote falsely attributed to the president-elect to point how just how misinformed his supporters are.

“I am horrified that people believed these bumper sticker slogans filled with hate,” she wrote. “People who voted for him… are not just misinformed. You didn’t even attempt information. You say lock her up and you know something about the word email but what was in the emails? You have no clue.”

Schumer went on to note investigators found “nothing incriminating” in Hillary Clinton’s emails, and praise her for “[dedicating] her entire life to public service and got our children Heath care and education without discrimination.” Meanwhile, she reminded her readers Trump “didn’t pay his workers,” “started a fake college,” “ripped people off,” “never paid his taxes” and allegedly “sexually assaulted women.”

Unfortunately for Schumer’s argument, she accompanied her message with a screenshot of an infamous fake quote attributed to Trump. She closed out her comments by acknowledging this point, saying “Yes this quote is fake but it doesn’t matter,” though whether the admission was included in the original post or tacked on at a later time remains unclear.

Either way, the comedian’s use of a blatantly false quote derived from a popular anti-Trump meme undermines her main point — that Trump supporters voted for their candidate without digging into the reality of his false claims.
