The often inane musings on basketball and society of former NBA stars and current TNT analysts Shaquille O’Neal and Charles Barkley aren’t far from those relayed by Matthew McConaughey’s nihilistic detective Rust Cohle in season one of HBO’s “True Detective.” With characters of the critically acclaimed crime anthology’s next installment already cast, The Big Aristotle and Round Mound of Rebound got a jump on season three auditions with the help of Bleacher Report.
Watch O’Neal and Barkley wax poetic about the bleak Eastern Conference, ponder the identity of The Black Mamba, and clarify that time is a round basketball as opposed to a flat circle.
Yeah, we’re not optimistic about their chances. This mostly just serves as further confirmation that any image or voiceover set to The Handsome Family’s “Far From Any Road” is bone-chillingly creepy.
