Andrew Wiggins On Zach LaVine Dunk Contest Repertoire: ‘I Almost Fainted’

Many fans were disappointed when Andrew Wiggins’ name was left off the list of participants for this year’s Dunk Contest. If the rookie’s boasts about the jamming exploits of his Minnesota Timberwolves teammate prove accurate, though, All-Star Saturday’s main event will surely fare just fine without him.

After Wiggins led his international cohorts to a victory over their American counterparts with a MVP-winning performance in the Rising Stars Challenge, the 19 year-old claimed a near lack of consciouness upon watching one of Zach LaVine’s planned slams.

“You guys are in for a surprise,” Wiggins said. “Trust me. It’s going to be crazy… I can’t say nothing. Just know – I almost fainted. I never seen a dunk like that. I’ve never witnessed it before in my life. Just know.”

Sounds like LaVine is ready to make jaws drop. Not that we’re exactly surprised – the UCLA product was  our pick to win the dunk-off when the field was initially unveiled and has hardly kept his exceedingly rare aerial gifts a secret. Remember this epic performance at the Seattle Pro-Am in July?

Damn. We didn’t think this summer exhibition could ever be topped.

But if Wiggins is that impressed with his teammate’s contest repertoire, it’s probably time to start believing LaVine can – and perhaps will – best his previous effort. After all, it’s not like the Canadian star doesn’t know a thing or two about the subject at hand.
