Steve Kerr Will Reportedly Be Returning To The Warriors Bench Soon

Golden State Warriors coach Steve Kerr is progressing well in his recovery from back surgery. He’s not yet ready to completely return to action, but according to ESPN’s Ethan Sherwood Strauss, he’s feeling well enough to travel with the team on its upcoming preseason road trip.

Interim Golden State Warriors head coach Luke Walton told reporters he expects Warriors head coach Steve Kerr, currently recovering from a spinal leak caused by back surgery, to join the team on its upcoming road trip to Southern California.

“I expect that Steve Kerr will be with us,” Walton told the media before Thursday’s preseason game between the Warriors and Houston Rockets. “He has a house down there and whatnot. I don’t know how much he’ll be involved in what we’re doing as far as practice and games.”

Kerr’s presence alone is good for he and the Warriors. There’s a sense of worthlessness that comes during the recovery from a major injury. You feel like you need to do something, anything, just to feel somewhat productive again. Restlessness sets in, as does cabin fever. Given his hyper-competitive mindset, Kerr must be going insane the longer he’s held out of action, even if it’s for his own benefit.

He may not do much this trip, but at least he’ll be there, back in his environment, not going stir crazy in his own home. Even better? That it seems Kerr will be on the sidelines when Golden State begins its championship defense on Oct. 27 against the New Orleans Pelicans.
