DeAndre Jordan Mocked Carmelo Anthony About Being Team USA’s Eldest Statesman

If you’re a Syracuse fan like me, it seems like just yesterday that a fresh-faced Carmelo Anthony was leading the Orange through the NCAA Tournament to their first ever championship. But that was all the way back in 2003, a full 13 years ago.

Melo is still an All-Star caliber player, but he’s certainly past his prime nowadays, and at age 32, the upcoming games in Rio will probably be his last Olympics. With Team USA going mostly with a roster of young players, Melo is far and away the oldest player on the team. In fact, the only other player older than 30 is Kyle Lowry.

Melo has recently showed his age with his hilarious introduction to Snapchat and his reaction to his teammates doing karaoke on the plane. And in a recent story by the Associated Press, DeAndre Jordan piled on to the “Melo is old” talk with this quote:

“We’re a group of guys that range from age of 24 to, I don’t know how old Carmelo is, 40?” center DeAndre Jordan said. “So we have so much fun together and everybody’s so competitive and we all want to win, and when you got guys like that, it makes it that much more fun.”

Only eight years off, DeAndre. I’m sure Melo isn’t too thrilled with the fact that he’s actually just as close in age to the big 4-0 as he is to the age of the youngest players on Team USA (Kyrie Irving, and Harrison Barnes, both 24), and now his teammates are just rubbing it in.

Camaraderie!
