According to the Miami Herald’s Barry Jackson, news out of South Beach is that if Michael Beasley slides to No. 2, they’ll snag him and send Udonis Haslem packing.
A Heat official said several teams have expressed an interest in Udonis Haslem if Miami drafts and keeps Michael Beasley, which remains a strong possibility. Haslem could be swapped for a point guard, with Kirk Hinrich, T.J. Ford and Mo Williams in play, and less appealing names (Jamaal Tinsley, Jarrett Jack, Kyle Lowry) also available.
It’s no secret that Ford is on the Raptors trading block, but would Toronto send him packing if they didn’t get a physical small forward in return? For Bryan Colangelo, nothing makes more sense than some swap with the Clippers for Corey Maggette.
In the event that the Bulls take Derrick Rose first, they would likely use Kirk Hinrich as a trading chip. But swapping Captain Kirk for Haslem doesn’t get them anywhere – he’s just another body to add to the platoon of Tyrus Thomas and Joakim Noah.
Haslem for Mo Williams is too lopsided, and nobody really wants Jamaal Tinsley, so we might as well rule those possibilities out.
But what about Memphis? They have a small army of point guards, and could use some toughness along the front lines. Kyle Lowry could be a sparkplug for a stacked 2-3-4 of Wade, Marion and Beasley.
Watch out Celtics!
