There are certain plays that just stand out in your mind over time. Having watched basketball my whole life, the seasons blend together and one game-winning shot is sometimes hard to decipher from the rest. But when it comes to certain plays, they will never leave your mind. These are the plays that you spent hours on the playground trying to perfect, and before YouTube, you bought all the videotapes you could just to seem them again and again. When it comes to Michael Jordan, this play is when he posterized Patrick Ewing.
This wasn’t just a play in a game. This was MJ basically telling the Knicks/Ewing – in a playoff game no less – that not only can he shake two defenders that are trying to trap him, but he can rip out Ewing’s heart mid-air like that dude in Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom.
If you watch the video in slow motion, some say that Jordan actually elevates twice, just to make sure he is high enough. When he actually throws down, I wouldn’t be surprised if the dunk registered on the Richter Scale.
As for my favorite pairs of Air Jordans, I have to be honest with you: I never owned a pair of J’s growing up. It’s not that I wasn’t into sneakers, but living in Vermont wasn’t like NYC, Chicago or LA. But once I did get into kicks, my first and favorite pair was the Air Jordan 13.
What’s your favorite Jordan moment? What your favorite pair of kicks?
