JJ Redick Tore Down The League’s Newfound Frustration With ‘Superteams’ In These Three Tweets

When Kevin Durant joined the Warriors, it shifted the balance of power in the NBA to an extent not seen since LeBron James joined up with Dwyane Wade, Chris Bosh, and the Heat in 2011, and raised concerns around the league from everyone to KD’s former teammate James Harden to the commish himself, Adam Silver.

Of course, people who have voiced displeasure with the newest concentration of star power have had varying reasons for doing so. Silver wants more competitive teams and a better chance for small-market organization to hang onto stars, but many more seem to see the league as a morality play, where joining an already-established powerhouse is seen as something as a cop-out.

Well, Clippers guard JJ Redick would like to remind those folks of some simple facts:

Redick is unusually honest and opinionated in his public statements, but he’s certainly not alone among NBA players – ones who are concerned about how the heck they’re going to beat the Warriors next year – in saying “More power to you” about Durant. The less someone looks at the NBA like a hallowed ground of gladiators in legendary combat, the more they realize that the players are employees like in any industry, and it’s rather patronizing to say they don’t deserve the freedom to go where they please.
