Kevin Durant Will Apparently Make A Free Agency Decision On Or Before July 4th

Buckle up, basketball fans. The league’s biggest free agent since LeBron James in 2010 will be making his decision very, very soon.

According to Chris Broussard of ESPN, Kevin Durant will choose to remain with the Oklahoma City Thunder or sign with one of five competitors on or before July 4.

The 2014 MVP will conclude his free agency tour by meeting with the Miami Heat on Sunday. He’s already heard pitches from the Thunder, Golden State Warriors, San Antonio Spurs, Los Angeles Clippers, and Boston Celtics.

Aside from almost inevitable reports of each sit down going well, there have been no inklings about the nature of Durant’s mindset one way or another since free agency began July 1. The most likely outcome remains that he opts to stay with the Thunder, either on a two-year deal that will allow him to reenter the player-movement fray next summer of a five-year agreement that gives him instant financial security.

But a wrinkle was thrown into the proceedings when Al Horford committed to playing Celtics on Saturday night while Durant was meeting with the team’s ballyhooed recruiting team. Will the presence of another All-Star lead to the 27 year old giving Boston more serious consideration?

It seems we won’t have to wait much longer to find out what jersey Durant will be wearing next season.
