Kristaps Porzingis Has Turned The Kid Who Cried On Draft Night Into His Biggest Fan

It seems like such a long time ago, but there was a time when Knicks fans didn’t love Kristaps Porzingis. Back on the night of the 2015 NBA Draft, fans of Manhattan’s NBA team went insane when Adam Silver announced that the team selected the 19-year-old Latvian who came to the United States from Spain’s ACB League. Here’s what one Knicks fan told the New York Post.

“I have no idea what Phil Jackson is thinking,” said Mark Dantuono, 17, of Staten Island. “Maybe he thinks he’s going to be the next Pau Gasol, but I don’t think so. This is the worst thing I’ve ever lived through as a Knicks fan. He didn’t score that many points in Europe. What’s he going to do in the NBA?”

One particular Knicks fan took it a little harder than anyone else. A young fan named Jordan became something of an internet celebrity because he cried over the pick on national television. He also tried to snap a selfie of himself crying, which the TV crew at the draft caught.

Porzingis, of course, turned out to be one of the best rookies in the league and has taken New York by storm. He’s averaging 13.6 points, 8.0 rebounds, and 2.0 blocks in just a hair under 28 minutes per game, and while his success has made him a ton of fans, none have made a more public 180 on Porzingis than Jordan. During Sunday’s Knicks game, the two met for the first time, and according to Porzingis, they got along great.

If Porzingis keeps playing as well as he’s playing now, it’s a given that every Knicks fan who was angry on draft night will eventually come around. If Jordan can change his mind, we’re positive that every other skeptical fan can, too.
