He’s Back: Kyrie Irving Will Make His Season Debut On Sunday Against The 76ers

It was just six months ago that Cavaliers point guard Kyrie Irving suffered a knee injury at the worst possible time: Game 1 of the NBA Finals. And though there’s been ample speculation and misinformation about his return to the court in 2015-16, none it matters now.

On Saturday morning, Irving announced on Twitter that he’s “back.”

The 23-year-old will make his season debut on Sunday night at home against the Philadelphia 76ers, which might be the best possible scenario for a return from a major knee injury. There were whispers earlier this week that he’d return Thursday night against the Oklahoma City Thunder, which Kyrie proceeded to shut down himself.

Maybe that was a decision for the best, since guarding Russell Westbrook in your first real game action in six months isn’t exactly optimal. Cleveland has maintained its place atop the Eastern Conference despite Irving’s absence, and his return sets the stage for perhaps the season’s most anticipated matchup: a Finals rematch with the Warriors on Christmas Day.

Can’t wait.
